We are thrilled to spotlight the incredibly talented mixed media artist Karen Arthurs, whose upcoming solo exhibition, Gilded Garden, at ADC's Ft. Thomas gallery is not to be missed.

Karen first captured our attention during last year's Radiance exhibition, where her work stood out among a field of gifted artists and ultimately earned her the Best in Show award. Her creative journey didn’t stop there — she went on to win a coveted solo show slot through our prestigious Art Comes Alive (ACA) competition, a well-deserved recognition of her compelling, ethereal artistry.

Karen Arthurs brings a distinct voice to the world of mixed media. Her process begins with photography as inspiration, but it’s her unique layering of materials and imagination that bring each piece to life. Working primarily in acrylic, Karen infuses her compositions with rich texture and depth using decorative papers, vintage fabrics, three-dimensional paper flowers, and even dried plant materials. The result is a tactile, visual experience that pulls viewers into another world.

Influenced in part by the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic, Karen’s work possesses a dreamlike quality. Her art often explores the deep and poetic connections between women and the natural world. Whether portraying a wistful gaze or a graceful gesture surrounded by natural elements, Karen’s pieces reflect a narrative where nature and femininity harmonize beautifully.
