Success Summit: Julia Schenk
Space and Occupancy Planner, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC)
Julia began her career coordinating outpatient clinical operations and has since moved into a space and occupancy planning position within Design, Construction and Space Management at CCHMC. Her current role of space and occupancy planner involves planning builds for and renovation of outpatient clinic and office settings, with art serving an integral part of the creation and renovation of space. Julia believes that art plays a vital role in the health and well-being of a child and his/her family – whether the child is part of the art making process, an appreciator of the art, or both. Furthermore, Julia knows that art is inspirational and motivational for a company’s employees, especially in a hospital setting, where art serves as an uplifting reminder of why they work there.
CCHMC ranks third in the nation among all Honor Roll hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 Best Children’s Hospitals ranking. The hospital also is ranked in the top 10 in all 10 pediatric specialty categories.
How To Get Work Into Healthcare Environments
- Do you know what it takes to get your artwork in healthcare facilities?
- How does art create opportunities for healing, engagement and positive experiences?
- How does art reinforce and support the client’s brand?
- How does art complement the architecture, interior design and architectural finishes?
- How is art selected, created and purchased?
In this session, Julia, Allison Banzhaf, and Mary Dietrich will give you answers to these questions and lead a detailed discussion of why Art and Wellness is an important issue for healthcare facilities. You’ll also take away valuable information on how to promote your work, discover what potential clients are looking for, how they budget for art and how timing is critical in the overall process. Julia, Allison, and Mary will give you insider information on the critical role they played in placing over 300 original paintings, mixed media works, sculptures and drawings into one of the larges hospitals in the country.
