RFQ: Public Art for Eden Prairie - $130,000

Eden Prairie, Minnesota USA

DEADLINE TO APPLY: 08/26/2018

ORGANIZATION: City of Eden Prairie

AWARD / BUDGET: $130,000

DESCRIPTION: The City of Eden Prairie is excited to invite artists to submit applications to be considered for a public art project in coordination with a major boulevard reconstruction in 2019. The construction for Preserve Boulevard will improve traffic flow and help control water levels to minimize the impact of large rain events on adjacent properties. We are seeking innovative public artists with fabrication experience to submit their qualifications. There will be multiple locations within and near the boulevard for site-specific work, such as medians and open areas at each end of the street. Works located within medians should be designed to offer visual impact and serve as calming areas for traffic. All finished artwork should have a consistent design theme and be constructed to withstand Minnesota weather extremes, requiring minimal maintenance by the City.

CARB Public Art – Front Green Commission – Riverside County, CA - $450,000

Riverside County, California         USA

DEADLINE TO APPLY: 08/31/2018

ORGANIZATION: California Air Resources Board

AWARD / BUDGET$: 450,000

DESCRIPTION: The Southern California Consolidation Project for the California Air Resource Board (CARB) is an approximately 400,000 square-foot facility on a 19-acre campus located in Riverside, CA. The campus is one of the world’s largest and most advanced emissions testing and research facilities and consolidates five existing locations into one state-of-the-art facility. The campus, under the design-build team of ZGF, Hensel Phelps (HP), and Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI), is the largest true zero net energy facility of its type and has the highest sustainability goals including Zero Net Energy, LEED Platinum, CALGreen Tier 2, and Zero Carbon.

Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition - $25,000 in awards

Washington DC, USA

ORGANIZATION: National Portrait Gallery

AWARD / BUDGET: $25,000

DESCRIPTION: The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery announces an open call from May 28 through Sept. 3, 2018 for submissions to its fifth triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition. Established in 2006, the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition invites artists (18 and over) living and working in the United States to submit one portrait for consideration. Selected artworks are featured in a museum exhibition and some artists are awarded prizes. This year, the competition will focus on broadening the definition of portraiture while highlighting the genre’s relevance in contemporary art and culture. The first-prize winner will receive $25,000 and a commission to portray a remarkable living American for the National Portrait Gallery’s collection. Additional cash prizes will be awarded. Submissions from each finalist will form “The Outwin 2019: American Portraiture Today” exhibition, which will be displayed at the Portrait Gallery from Nov. 2, 2019, through Sept. 7, 2020, before traveling to other cities in the United States. Previous competitions have received more than 3,000 entries.

The competition welcomes all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, textiles, video, performance and digital or time-based media. Artworks may originate from direct encounters between the artist and the sitter, but they may also be representative of indirect encounters. The MacDowell Colony Fellowship/Residency – Peterborough, NH

ORGANIZATION: The MacDowell Colony

DESCRIPTION: The MacDowell Colony provides time, space, and an inspiring environment to artists of exceptional talent. A MacDowell Fellowship, or residency, consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for up to eight weeks. There are no residency fees. MacDowell Fellows are selected by our admissions panels, which are comprised of a revolving group of distinguished professionals in each artistic discipline who serve anonymously for three years.

Please review the Application Guidelines below before beginning the application process. If you have questions about applying to MacDowell, please contact the admissions office atadmissions@macdowellcolony.org. The Colony accepts applications from artists working in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. The sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence, which the Colony defines in a pluralistic and inclusive way. MacDowell encourages applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics, and welcomes artists engaging in the broadest spectrum of artistic practice and investigating an unlimited array of inquiries and concerns. To that end, emerging as well as established artists are invited to apply. Applicants who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs as of the date of application are ineligible for a residency and therefore cannot apply. Doctoral candidates who have finished all coursework may apply.
