Beach Bum – Art Design Consultants

Beach Bum

Posted on 09 August 2012

When August rolls around, we tend to kick our summer fun into high gear. And what is summer without a trip to the beach?!  The sound of the waves, seagulls, kids laughing and playing in the sand…there’s something so relaxing about this place; closing your eyes and soaking in every ounce of sunshine before fall arrives. The same way you used collect sea shells and bring home a jar of sand, the beach is something you can still represent in your home year round so that summer fun never feels too far away. Whether your favorite part is wiggling your toes in the sand, swimming, soaking up the sun, or the colorful toys, towels, and umbrellas…why not showcase beach beauty on your wall?

The neutral color, beautiful patterns & shadows the wind creates in the beach sand is so soft & whimsical. There is something so peaceful and warm with its golden tones, and a sense of mystery…you never know what treasures a walk along the beach may bring you.   PEBBLES, SHELLS & SHORELINE The beach is full of hidden keepsakes. Colorful stones and shells that brighten when you wash them clean by the shoreline. Below, Artist Mary Barr Rhodes actually uses small stones in her paint creating interesting textures. Her use of metallic gold paint and high gloss finish look like just like these small treasures that wet with each wave. When time has passed, these shells and stones sink into the sand and create beautiful patterns. The wet stones become a deep and rich charcoal grey that is pops against the tan sand.   [caption id="attachment_2454" align="aligncenter" width="553" caption="Artwork by Nancy Willman"][/caption]

The movement and variance in the blues and greens of the water is nearly incomparable in beauty. The way the water ripples and catches the light glitters and gleams in the sunlight.

On a hot summer day the beach becomes full of fun loving vacationers…and with vacationers comes color! Towels, swim suits, shovels & pail, beach chairs, hats & umbrellas brighten up the sandy background with cheery eye candy.   [caption id="attachment_2455" align="aligncenter" width="614" caption="Click image to see more of Suzanne Fisher's artwork"][/caption]

Beach toys and sand castle-making tools often come in primary colors and simple shapes. Like a castle made with both round and square buckets, Ursula Brenner’s abstract paintings pair geometric shapes with organic lines. This, along with her use of pattern, develops a refreshing & playful work of art. If you love summer and you yearly dread its end, bring some of the sunshine and beach inside! Sand, sun, and the fun are all attainable in a one of a kind piece of artwork. What better way to treasure you favorite season all year long?
