Joanne Chappell, a native of Hammond, Indiana, graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Fine Arts in 1960. In the early years, she taught art and gave private instruction.  In 1968, she opened her first gallery, Editions Limited Galleries, in Indianapolis.  She developed her business skills by conducting art shows and auctions for non-profit groups, among them the Indianapolis Museum and various charities involved with children’s and women’s causes.

Joanne published her first art poster, Golf Classics, by noted sports artist, LeRoy Neiman, in 1972.  The Neiman poster was a wild success and served to launch the Indiana gallery and the basis for the art publishing business she subsequently founded and incorporated as Editions Limited West, Inc after relocating to San Francisco in 1978. From the incredible success of this poster, Joanne developed a strategy of contracting with artists to exclusively market their artwork as posters.  Editions Limited West’s business focus changed from retail and corporate art sales to wholesale publishing and marketing of exclusive posters.  Editions Limited was one of the first fine art wholesale publishers in the industry and remains one of the largest in the US to this day.  In 1999, she moved the company to its current location in Emeryville, historically an artist enclave nestled between Berkeley and Oakland in the San Francisco Bay.

Today the company is a flourishing fine art publisher and art consulting service that still includes a number of employees who have been with Joanne since the 1980’s and her early San Francisco days.  Editions Limited is considered one of the premier poster publishers in the industry, and enjoys a reputation for quality and innovation in the interior design, hospitality, and healthcare markets.  The business has expanded from original artwork, posters, and limited edition lithographs to custom fine art prints on paper, canvas, aluminum, acrylic and sustainable bamboo.  The art advising service thrives with site-specific art programs around the world.

VININGS GALLERY  A One-of-a-Kind Art Destination for Collectors and Artists Alike

Like the impressive mix of nationally recognized and emerging artists featured on its walls, Vinings Gallery is a true original – a place where a passion and enthusiasm for great art is contagious.

Walk through the doors and enjoy a soul-quenching glass of wine on canvas with America’s pre-eminent painter of wine, Thomas Arvid, a quiet stroll through the French countryside with impressionist, JalinePol, an evening out on the town with adventurous cityscape painter Michael Flohr, or listen to the musical soul of resident artist and gallery co-owner Denard Stalling, who you may find at an easel painting in the front window or creating a custom hand-made frame in the back. For those who agree with Aristotle, who long ago said, “The soul never thinks without a picture,” there’s plenty to stir the spirit at Vinings Gallery, a recently expanded artistic hotspot in the burgeoning Atlanta art scene.

The soul of Vinings Gallery is found not only in its growing palette of more than 30 of the world’s most sought after and emerging artists, but also in its small, close-knit staff of three. Gary Handler, one of the country’s leading art consultants and artist representatives, and Stalling, whose musically themed still life images have struck a cord with collectors nationwide, opened Vinings Gallery in December 1999.

There’s no secret formula to the gallery staff’s uncanny ability to find great artists. “We explore artists from around the world and select those that we really like that will fit into the personality of the gallery. It’s as simple as that,” says Gary Handler. Working with such greats as internationally recognized wine artist, Thomas Arvid, who is redefining the modern still life from his nearby Kennesaw, Georgia studio; Californian Michael Flohr and his urban impressionist paintings; French artist JalinePol and her beautiful textured fields and flowers; and Louisiana native Robert Cook’s traditional and contemporary landscapes, is a dream-come-true for Handler and Stalling.

Handler believes that art needn’t be complicated. “After a long, tough day, you should be able to kick your shoes off, open up a bottle of wine, sit back and let that painting take you to a happy place.”

HOHMANN represents a family endeavor in fine art for almost 40 years in both Europe and America. What was founded by Werner and Ursula Hohmann in Germany has continued in the United States with Ursula’s sister Eva Hart and is operated today by the brothers Maximilian Hohmann (Germany) and Christian Hohmann (U.S.A.)

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has recently recognized the longstanding history of the Hohmann family in the art world by registering the name HOHMANN as a trademark.

The gallery in Palm Desert is designed to be an experience for art collectors. The 5,000 SF showroom located on the prestigious El Paseo Drive offers three galleries and an onsite art storage vault with a private viewing room. An uncluttered display and a welcoming atmosphere await the visitor. What makes the gallery different is what you don’t see, which is the work that goes into selecting the artists and individual works before they make it into the gallery. Throughout the season the gallery hosts curated exhibitions as well as a permanent display of gallery artists and selected works by masters of the 20th century.

While the Hohmann family has no program that would limit the gallery to one movement, the requirements to be showcased in the gallery are extremely high and discerning. Contemporary artists are handpicked and thoroughly vetted before being considered for representation. When it comes to secondary market works, only the best quality and impeccable condition are exhibited.  The program is as simple as it is diverse and it is built on the vision of the Hohmann family to find and promote art that lives up to their motto: “Originality, quality, consistency and longevity”.
